Twin community centers totaling $50 million were built on the Cattaraugus and Allegany Territories. Each is 92,000 sq. ft., and are on-story masonry and steel frame structures. The centers have offices for administrative functions, and multi-purpose space for community
events. The projects also included the construction of double gymnasiums, competition-size swimming pools, physical fitness rooms, aerobics rooms, regulation lacrosse arenas and ice rinks as well as tiered seating and box seats. They have full size commercial kitchens to accommodate large events with vending and concession spots for smaller everyday activities. Supply storage, site upgrades and various support functions were an integral part of these projects as well as all exterior improvements.
Both centers were bid on a fast track basis and managed by SCMC. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and “Green” building best practices were a key part of the building design and construction process. Recycled materials, regional building products and energy-efficient equipment were used ultimately yielding projects with reduced carbon footprints. Both were completed in 2011.
